The photograph was taken from inside a brick kiln in Mang Thít while its roof was being dismantled. The opening above reveals a clear blue sky, framed by concentric layers of brick that form the kiln’s structure. Traces, stains, and unexpected patterns created through years of use and repeated firings remain visible across the interior walls.
The image captures a transitional moment in Mang Thít’s brick and ceramic production landscape. After decades of development, local production is now in decline; many workshops have ceased operating, dismantled their kilns, or converted their land to other uses. As a result, structures once closely tied to the local landscape and everyday working life are gradually changing or disappearing.
Photographed in June 2026 by Trần Hiếu Anh Nguyên, the work serves both as a record of the kiln’s interior architecture and as documentation of Mang Thít at a moment of transformation.
