The piece is modelled after the architecture of traditional brick kilns in Mang Thít, Vĩnh Long. Its tall domed form, front firing entrance, concentric brick courses, and opening at the top are recreated at a smaller scale, retaining the most recognisable features of the kilns that once appeared throughout this brick-and-ceramic-producing region along the Cổ Chiên River.
Mang Thít was once one of the Mekong Delta’s important centres for brick and ceramic production. Over several decades, thousands of kilns were built along rivers and canals, creating a distinctive craft-industrial landscape in which deep red kiln forms rose among orchards, fields, and waterways. Today, as production continues to decline, many kilns have ceased operating or been dismantled, and their familiar silhouettes are gradually becoming part of the region’s collective memory.
As a small ceramic object, the model does not attempt to reproduce any single kiln exactly. Instead, it distils familiar architectural features into a simple and approachable form. The unglazed terracotta surface highlights the natural colour and texture of the clay, while recalling the close relationship between earth, fire, and brickmaking in Mang Thít.
The piece can be displayed as a small decorative object, a keepsake, or a reminder of the distinctive kiln landscape of Vĩnh Long.
